About Antisource

Antisource.com started as a project many years ago as a way to consolidate AntiVirus information and provide it to systems administrators. After a 6 month antivirus comparison for a previous employer, my report revealed how scattered all of these sources of information were.

As my tasks evolved into more time spent combating spam, I then added AntiSpam to Antisource's list. The relationship seemed natural as many more worms were utilizing SMTP to spread themselves.

Then after a few years, spyware and adware became the prominant nuisance. These almost virus-like programs were difficult to remove and sometimes hard to spot, and first made their way into networks via iMesh and Kazaa installs. Now that administrators have tightened their security policies and thrown more tools into the mix, spyware took a turn from passive bloatware to blatant malicious intent. This new breed of "malware" installed itself by simply visiting a web page, known as drive-by downloads. So then AntiSpyware (or all AntiMalware) made it onto Antisource's list. Again the relationship between malware and viruses seemed natural.

This cycle of Internet risks continues to go full circle, as we now see Phishing and Botnets (previously known as Zombie networks). It wasn't until after the work I had put into Antisource.com that I really saw the relationship between all of this.

Antisource.com is now relatively old, and I will continue to add more content as the threatscape evolves. Check back often, feel free to use the forums to discuss these topics, and consider contributing an article. Thanks for visiting.
